What it covers
What a Medicare Supplement pays for
Original Medicare covers most of your care but leaves you with deductibles, copays and coinsurance that have no yearly cap. A Medicare Supplement plan is standardized insurance that fills in those gaps, which is why it is also called Medigap.
- Helps pay the Part A hospital deductible and coinsurance
- Helps pay the Part B coinsurance for doctor visits
- No network, so you keep any provider who accepts Medicare
- Coverage that travels with you across the country
- Standardized plans, so a Plan G is the same benefits at every carrier
Because the benefits are standardized by letter, the real difference between carriers comes down to price and service. A Medigap plan does not include drug coverage, so Earl pairs it with a separate Part D plan.
